So… think you have dry skin, but not sure how to treat it?
Or are you unsure of your skin type, and wondering how to figure it out?
With skincare, we know the infinite resources, advice and influencer recommendations can be overwhelming and may often leave you feeling torn with which products to use to ensure you are doing the best for YOUR skin.
Having worked with a huge range of skin types and conditions in our studio for many years, we wanted to share our knowledge in the hope that we can educate you further and help to keep your skin happy and healthy.
First up - the lowdown on DRY SKIN!
Dry skin is a skin type, but it can also be a temporary, treatable skin condition which occurs as a result of using products like retinol and chemical exfoliants.
You are likely to have dry skin if you experience any of the following:
very small pores
‘tight’ feeling, especially post-cleansing
flaky patches
lack of vibrancy/dull appearance
lack of bounce/plumpness
products don’t absorb well and can sit on top of the skin
tendency to go red/become easily irritated
can be a rough texture to the touch.
Alongside dry skin, you can also suffer from dehydration or other skin conditions such as rosacea. More often than not, those with dry skin can also experience sensitivity. We know, it’s not the most desirable combination!
So, what causes it?
Contrary to popular belief, dry skin is actually a result of minimal oil production in the skin, NOT a lack of water. Sorry, but you won’t achieve that hydrated, glowing goddess-like complexion just by knocking back 3 litres of water per day. However, please remember that just because you have dry skin this doesn’t mean that you won’t suffer from spots or blackheads.
And how can you treat it?
Choosing products with the right ingredients will make the biggest difference when caring for dry skin.
Look at introducing facial oils - rosehip & neroli are wonderful for nourishing, brightening and replenishing the skin. (Our blend46 facial oil would be perfect!)
Look for products that include ceramides and fatty acids as well as heavier oil-based moisturisers (Dr Jart Ceramidin is great!)
Look for nourishing weekly masks, glycerin based products, and choose an SPF with a cream-based formulation.
That’s the basics down, now what should your daily routine look like?
In our opinion, a simple summer skincare routine should look something like this:
Oil cleanse (double cleansing is only necessary in the evening)
Cream cleanse (use your favourite, most luxurious cleanser here!)
Hydrating mist (we LOVE Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator)
Hydrating serum (look for products with hyaluronic acid and press in to moist skin)
Facial Oil (blend46, or if you want a more bespoke treatment, why not try our Signature blend33 customised facial oils?)
Moisturiser (Dr Jart Ceramidin will be perfect for you!)
SPF (We love Shiseido, La Roche-Posay & Dr Sam Bunting to name but a few!
